The truth about Star Wars.

George Lucas actually came up with Star Wars when he was trying to establish a money-making religion.  That's why it's "a long time ago in a galaxy far away" and not in the future.  When nobody would believe him about the Force and aliens and stuff, he decided to just turn it into a movie.  It worked out perfectly, because when he was trying to claim it was all true nobody wanted to give him a dime.  Now he's like super rich.

Orhan, you got it exactly. Lucas was going to call it something like "The Church of Jediology." I know this because my uncle owned the factory where they were going to manufacture the light sabers given to Level IV initiates. The tuitition for Level IV cost $25,000 in 1977 prices.

George Lucas wasn't the first to come up with the idea for a lightsaber. His uncle worked at the department of defense with my grandpa helping to develop a plasma sword for cutting through tanks. They worked, and worked, good, Lucas saw them in action, but they never put them into production because they had a tendancy to overheat, explode, and burn people's hands off. It was a top secret program, and that was a long time ago. Maybe one day they will get that problem fixed and the military will have lightsabers.
